The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don't pay your bill, "The Union" sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property… with no concern for your comfort or survival. Former soldier Remy is one of the best organ repo men in the business. But when he suffers a cardiac failure on the job, he awakens to find himself fitted with the company's top-of-the-line heart-replacement…wella hefty debt. But a side effect of the procedure is that his heart's no longer in the job. When he can't make the payments, The Union sends its toughest enforcer, Remy's former partner Jake, to track him down.
Set in the near future when artificial organs can be bought on credit, it revolves around a man who struggles to make the payments on a heart he has purchased. He must therefore go on the run before said ticker is repossessed.
This is a film for sci fi fans. <br/><br/>There are numerous nods and winks to various other classics in this genre, some more subtle than others. Perhaps this is why i want to defend it, however, it does suffer from some poor dialogue, only the barest references to character development, and the plot is strikingly formulaic. <br/><br/>This film feels like its trying to bring, Children of Men, Blade Runner and Brazil, with the action and plain aggression of The Bourne series. which despite law's best efforts doesn't really work, but only if you expected more. <br/><br/>It does have it's positive points though particularlya series of fight (whether these countfights is debatable) scenes it's a perfectly watchable alternative to Equilbirum, although notgood, but still better than Aeon flux. But it's still fun, although it seems to take it's self a little more seriously than either of the previous and maybe that's why so many dislike it so. I get the strong impression that if it were remade with a laugher track and a joke or two it would be much improved. <br/><br/>I also enjoyed the interesting division between the Blade Runner city scape with the very normal suburbs. It's nice to see that the future isn't that far away. Unfortunately, the blending of the two does lead to a classic sci trait of horrible cars, a problem which Gattaca resolved nicely. <br/><br/>There are other questions about the future which go unanswered, but then again no one likes spoilers.<br/><br/>In conclusion, not great, not terrible, but isn't too far off the mark when considered against it's peers. <br/><br/>Incidentally, for those wondering about organ replacement and hire purchase schemes in this film, perhaps you should wonder about why the M 5 thing exists? if it only allows them to dream happily until death how is that different from a comma? or better than the person dying? and how can it be worth the expense?
Repo men, a film about a couple of Repo personnel who go out and repossess organs for which the recipient loses their right to the organ because of default payments. A corporation knownthe union, hires Repo men to find and take back the organ no matter who or what status you come from. If you do not pay, you lose the organ which could be from a heart to a kidney or a lung. Yet in this facade, a Repo man stops his skills because of an accident which causes him to become a recipient of a heart, but loses his abilities to do his job. Now near broke, his payments stop which make other Repo men go out and look for him to take back the heart. In the middle is his ex partner who does not want him to die, but keep his joba Repo man, but in his resolve, he decides to destroy the main computer for which all accounts are held. This was a good story, with lots of twists. Thoroughly enjoyable, bloody, action, humour, and a scheme for those thinkers out there, that there just might be something to the Repo business. Wonderful cast, and music to fit that bill of the strange noir film like Repo Men.
Comprising reclaimed bits from "Blade Runner," "A Clockwork Orange" and "Children of Men" and glibly served up with hyper Guy Ritchie attitude by first-time feature director Miguel Sapochnik, the resulting in-your-face mess never knows what it wants to be when it grows up.
Repo Men is based on the novel The Repossession Mambo by Eric Garcia. It's called "Burn My Shadow" by UNKLE. The DVD and Blu-ray disc releases of the film contain both the theatrical version (rated R) and an unrated version of the movie. The longer cut has approximately 7 minutes of additional footage, mostly containing story-driven scenes but also some slight corrections of editing mistakes and some new gore.
